Krampus!!! [Dec. 12th, 2008|08:27 am]

Now here's a Winter Holiday custom I can get behind.
In Alpine regions of Europe, the Krampus is a creature that punishes bad children.
His special day is December 5th, and people dress up in Krampus outfits and wander the streets frightening people.

Ozploitation! [Nov. 22nd, 2008|02:42 pm]
Hey folks.
I'm inviting people over to my house on Sunday(tomorrow) to watch some Australian schlock cinema.

Roadgames is part Slasher, and part Highway Thriller with Jamie Lee Curtis in the middle of her Scream Queen phase. Fresh from playing the lead in Prom Night, this time she heads to Australia to do some hitchhiking, and gets picked up by Trucker Stacy Keach, who's pretty sure there's a serial killer on the lose. The director, Richard Franklin pays tribute to Hitchcock throughout and later went on to make "Psycho 2".

Escape 2000 is the American name of the Australian movie Turkey Shoot. Set in the year 1995 it explores a dystopian future where social deviants are sent to re-education camps. The prisoners are offered a deal where if they agree to play the animals in a hunting expedition for some VIPs, and can stay alive till sundown, they earn they're escape.
Much gore follows.

Razorback is a "Jaws" style monster movie about a giant homicidal boar. The plot features kangaroo poachers, an unethical dog food plant, and a Canadian reporter determined to uncover the truth. Two years later the director made "The Highlander".

I'm inviting people over for around 7:00.
Bring your own beer and snacks.

Blogoween [Oct. 4th, 2008|03:40 pm]
Hey folks.
seeing as it's fucking Halloween season, and seeing as I'm a movie nerd deluxe, I thought I'd direct anyone who's interested to The Scope's web page where Myself and Adam Clarke are producing a list of 31 "Fantastic Horror Films You’ve Never Seen!"
One film will be featured for every day of October, and we'll also be doing a second list of 10 films for the print edition that won't be quite so obscure.
If you have any interest in horror film at all, I'd suggest you take a look. The films featured run the gamut from Slashers, to Zombies, to beautiful and effective supernatural thrillers, and will be from all over the world. We're four films in at this point and haven't listed a North American movie yet.

Let me know what you think.
Lots O' Love.

Lantern Fest! [Jul. 6th, 2008|09:40 pm]
A few weeks ago I got another job as Lantern Fest Assistant. So far I've been earning a paycheck to hang out in the park with the dog(s) and do my own lanterns. Now it's time for some shameless festival promotion....

The Victoria Park Lantern Festival is a participatory event that brings people together to celebrate their community and light up their park with hundreds of home-made lanterns. This festival strives to encourage artistic expression, public participation and community-building in the Victoria Park area, and to ensure that the park remains a vibrant part of our urban landscape. It's our park! It's our festival!

Workshops are:
Every Tuesday and Thursday from now until July 24th from 7-9pm @ Victoria Park
Wednesday July 9th and Wednesday July 16th from 7-9pm @ The Anna Templeton Center
Saturday July 12th from 1-3pm @ Victoria Park

Workshops are free and supplies/help are provided!

Also, volunteers + donations are sought! Anyone who wants to help with a workshop or for the actual festival then let me know or email lanternfest@gmail.com. And yes Virgina, there is a facebook group...

see ya then.
